Photo Cops Capture 180 Red-Light Runners
Minneapolis (WCCO) ―
Even after photo cop cameras have been installed, drivers continue to speed through red lights.
On a single day last week, the cameras caught more than 180 cars running red lights, Minneapolis Police said.
The police department put an end to the warning period last week, and began issuing tickets for those who don't stop for red lights.
However, 24 of the 180 drivers caught by the cameras could not be fined, because blocked camera views.
When the process of getting all cameras installed and running is complete, police estimate the cameras will catch about 250 violators each day.
Tickets cost $140. That could bring Minneapolis $35,000 in fines each day.
