Stretch Of I-35W To Memorialize Officer

Lino Lakes, Minn. (AP) ― Lino Lakes, Minn. police Officer Shawn Silvera died trying to stop a fleeing suspect on Interstate 35W. Now, he'll be honored by having a section of the road named after him.

Four signs will go up on a six-mile stretch from Lino Lakes to Forest Lake, Minn. honoring Silvera. The 32-year-old peace officer was struck and killed in September by a South Dakota man fleeing police.

Silvera had just put down a tire-deflating device when suspect's car swerved and hit him. He left behind a wife and two young children.

The fleeing motorist faces first-degree murder charges.
