NWA Flight Attendants To Vote On Union
Minneapolis (AP) ―
Some Northwest Airlines flight attendants are questioning whether they want the union that negotiated a tentative concessionary agreement for them to keep representing them.
Supporters of a different union filed a petition yesterday that'll trigger a representation election.
In March, the Professional Flight Attendants Association negotiated the plan that includes pay cuts of 21 percent and would save Northwest $195 million a year. The union replaced the Teamsters at Northwest in 2003.
But now, many flight attendants have signed cards asking the National Mediation Board to call a representation election.
Some say they want the Association of Flight Attendants to represent the more than nine thousand Northwest attendants.
PFAA President Guy Meek says the representation election will divide the flight attendants at a time when all airline unions should stand together.
