The union representing Northwest Airlines flight attendants met with airline negotiators today and offered a proposal the union says would save Northwest $156 million a year.
Northwest said the proposal falls short of the $195 million in savings from flight attendants that the bankruptcy court said was necessary for the airline to restructure and emerge from bankruptcy. Northwest imposed the needed cuts on flight attendants last July, but says it hopes to reach a consensual agreement with their union soon so flight attendants can get an unsecured claim in Northwest's bankruptcy proceedings.
