NWA Sues AMFA Over 'Acts Of Civil Disobedience'
Minneapolis (WCCO) ―
Northwest Airlines has filed a lawsuit against the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association over picketers' actions during the mechanics strike, the airline said Monday.
The airline wishes to prevent AMFA members from "continuing to engage in, by their own public statements, acts of civil disobedience," according to a Northwest Airlines statement released Monday.
In its statement, the airline alleged AMFA members engaged in acts that threatened public safety and obstructed traffic.
"While AMFA members are entitled to picket peacefully, Northwest believes that it is improper to engage in actions that threaten the safety of people and property, and interfere with safe operation of vehicles on public roadways," the statement read.
The airline did not specify any actions in its statement.
Ted Ludwig, president of the Minneapolis local of the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association, said the lawsuit alleges striking mechanics violated Minnesota state laws when trying to block the buses taking replacement workers to Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport on Thursday.
Ludwig said he has met with lawyers regarding the lawsuit and is confident that Northwest doesn't have a case.
