Many Minnesotans spent Sunday cleaning up debris and visiting with insurance adjustors.
In the town of Nicollet, Minn., 20 homes were damaged. One house that lost its roof is owned by a lady who has multiple sclerosis, Jill Schauberger. She was on the second floor when the twister hit.
"Something hit me on the head, and I looked down and I was covered in insulation, so I couldn't breathe," said Schauberger. "I thought I was going to die."
Even Schauberger's dog was covered in insulation. Moments later, friends got them out. Neighbors went to the garage to get Schauberger's mobility scooter but found it under the roof of the garage.
It's clean now but it doesn't work. For more bad news, Schauberger's insurance company said it won't total the house. The company wants to repair it, which ruins Schauberger's plans to build a one-level handicapped-accessible home.
"They're building cupboards that a wheelchair can go under so you can cook," said Schauberger.
Her friends worry that unless the insurance company reconsiders, Schauberger will have to move.
"To move her elsewhere, she would be lost," said neighbor Della Luing. "She would fall into depression too easily, so she needs to be around, surrounded by her friends."
Schauberger is especially thankful that she could move in with her neighbors. They too have vowed to lobby the insurance company, in an effort to get Schauberger the house she needs.
"In my condition, I couldn't go back and help these people like they have done for me. It's overwhelming," Schauberger said.
Schauberger said when Gov. Tim Pawlenty toured the storm damage, he spoke with an insurance representative at the scene about getting a new home for her.
Schauberger said she is not sure how long it will take to learn if any of the appeals will be effective.
