Gophers Stadium Plan Bound For Senate Floor
St. Paul (AP) ―
The University of Minnesota has finally got a stadium bill through the Senate Tax Committee. But it's not the one they've been pressing for.
On a seven-to-five partyline vote, the Democratic-led committee has approved a Gophers' stadium plan that would be paid for largely by a new sports memorabilia tax.
Senate Republicans complained that it was a hollow vote because the G-O-P House and Governor Pawlenty won't agree to the tax. The House overwhelmingly approved a stadium plan that doesn't identify a source for the state contribution.
The proposal could come to a vote by Monday.
