Dwight Smith To Plead Guilty To Indecent Conduct

Minneapolis (AP) ― Vikings safety Dwight Smith will plead guilty to misdemeanor indecent conduct in connection with an incident involving himself and a 24-year-old woman in a stairwell in downtown Minneapolis.

Smith's attorney, David Valentini, said in Hennepin County District Court on Wednesday that his client would sign the necessary paperwork within 10 days.

"He's embarrassed by it, and he's apologetic about it, and he wanted to get it done," Valentini said, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press. Smith did not appear in court.

Calls to the Minneapolis city attorney's office and Valentini's office were not immediately returned to The Associated Press on Wednesday.

Valentini said the plea agreement calls for Smith to be sentenced to 16 hours of community service, a $375 fine and $700 in prosecutor costs. Also he must stay away from the Graves 601 Hotel for a year.

Smith was cited for indecent conduct Aug. 26 when he and the woman were found in a stairwell of the hotel.
