The county moved to condemn the land after officials couldn't reach agreement with landowners on a price for the land as the beginning of the construction season approaches.
The land is owned by a limited liability partnership with more than 100 investors. The county says a spending cap imposed by the Legislature limits what the county can pay for the land west of Target Center.
Preliminary work on the 40,000-seat open-air stadium is begin in mid-March. The county is asking to be given title to the land as early as Jan. 30.
The stadium is projected to open in three years.
