It's almost assured that construction of a new Minnesota Twins ballpark will begin by June 1, now that Hennepin County has cut a check for $13.75 million.
The county delivered the check to a judge, ending a four-month dispute over the purchase price of the land where the ballpark will be located in downtown Minneapolis. The county's check is for what it thinks the land is worth. A condemnation court hearing will begin June 25 to determine the actual land price.
The Twins have agreed to kick in extra money if the court agrees with the landowners that the land is worth more than the county estimates.
The new 40,000-seat stadium is scheduled to open in the spring of 2010.

The Metrodome replaced Met Stadium, which used to be in Bloomington. The Mall of America now stands in that site.
