Twins To Delay Ballpark Design Unveiling

Minneapolis (AP) ― The Minnesota Twins will delay publicizing detailed designs of their new ballpark, team president Dave St. Peter said Monday.

The team was planning to show the architectural renderings Thursday to the Hennepin County board. The presentation was tabled because of last week's decision by the board to postpone six major votes regarding the stadium originally scheduled for Feb. 27. That move stemmed from the stalemate between the county and landowners over the price of the parcel where the ballpark is supposed to be built.

"Until there's some form of resolution between the county and the landowners, we're just going to sit tight," St. Peter said.

Due to the dispute, the county has said it has begun looking at alternative sites. A move would be difficult and require an amendment to the legislation passed last May authorizing a countywide sales tax for the $522 million stadium.

St. Peter stressed that the team is still targeting an April 2010 opening at the site just west of Target Center on the edge of downtown Minneapolis. He said the Twins are not currently considering alternative sites, and that a delay in the process by a month or two would not push the project off its timetable.
