Mesaba Watches NWA Struggle From Sidelines

Minneapolis (AP) ― Mesaba Airlines continues to fly a normal schedule as it waits to see what's going to happen with Northwest Airlines in bankruptcy court.

But Mesaba spokeswoman Elizabeth Costello says it's in the best interest of Mesaba to see Northwest rebuild. Mesaba flies as an Airlink partner of Northwest, which is its only customer.

Earlier this month Northwest failed to make an $18 million payment to Mesaba.

Northwest Airlines was founded in 1926, when it began carrying air mail from the Twin Cities to Chicago on a pair of rented, open-cockpit biplanes. The company began transporting ticketed passengers almost a year later.
