Thousands gathered at a Memorial Day service at Fort Snelling National Cemetery Monday morning.
The event included music and many formalities.
U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar spoke at the event, saying she is a critic of the war in Iraq, but a supporter of the soldiers who are serving our country. She says the U.S. soldiers should be brought home.
Gov. Tim Pawlenty was also in attendance. He praised veterans for their sacrifices.
Other celebrations in the state include a groundbreaking at the site of a new veterans memorial in Richfield, Minn. Speakers included Chuck Lindberg, the last surviving member of the group of Marines who raised the first American flag at Iwo Jima.
