Hennepin County To Vote On Twins Stadium Tuesday
Minneapolis (AP) ―
The Hennepin County Board is expected to vote Tuesday on whether to levy a countywide sales tax to help pay for a new stadium for the Minnesota Twins.
The board convenes at 1 p.m. While approval is expected, the board's vote is necessary for the tax to be levied beginning in January.
The Twins have committed $130 million to the stadium's construction, and would be responsible for any cost overruns. The county would issue $392 million in debt.
The 0.15 percent sales tax would raise an estimated $29 million a year.
The tax would work out to three cents on a $20 purchase. County officials estimate it would cost a married couple with two children earning $60,000 annually an extra $25 a year.
