Pawlenty Outlines Plan To Expand Health Coverage

St. Paul (AP) ― Governor Pawlenty wants to create a private version of MinnesotaCare as he seeks to reduce the number of uninsured Minnesotans.

He also wants to cut the cost of MinnesotaCare for children, and create a Minnesota Health Insurance Exchange to help people buy cheaper health insurance using pre-tax dollars.

Pawlenty outlined his proposal at a Capitol news conference this afternoon.

MinnesotaCare is a state subsidized health care program.

The Republican governor says 23,000 people would get insurance under his plan -- about 13,000 of them would be children.

Pawlenty says the Minnesota Insurance Exchange would also make it easier for another 35,000 people to get coverage.
