Memorial Honors Minnesota's Fallen Officers

St. Paul (AP) ― Minnesota police officers who died in the line of duty this year have been honored on the state Capitol grounds.

Candles were lighted Saturday night at the Peace Officer Memorial to remember the officers.

Three Minnesota law-enforcement officers have died in the line of duty this year.

St. Paul police Sgt. Gerald Vick was shot to death last May while working undercover.

Also in May, Wadena, Minn. police Officer Peter Resch collapsed while responding to a domestic disturbance call and died of an apparent heart attack.

In September, Lino Lakes, Minn. police Officer Shawn Silvera was struck and killed by a vehicle involved in a high-speed chase.

A group called "Minnesota COPS" wants people to show their support for fallen officers by putting a blue light in their window for the holidays.
