Ex-Gopher's Trial Delayed Until March
Minneapolis (AP) ―
Former University of Minnesota football player Dominic Jones' third-degree criminal sexual conduct trial has been delayed until March.
Hennepin County District Court Judge Marilyn Rosenbaum ruled on attorney Earl Gray's request, moving the trail to March 31. It has been scheduled for Nov. 13.
Assistant Hennepin County Attorney Martha Holton Dimick objected to a delay in the trial.
Gray said there is so much investigative material in the case that he needs more time to read it and interview witnesses. He also raised the possibility that another player had a video on his cell phone that might exonerate Jones.
Dimick said there is no other video.
In July, prosecutors charged Jones with sexually assaulting a woman who was "physically helpless" after a night of binge drinking at a campus apartment in early April. Prosecutors claim the alleged attack was recorded with a cell phone camera.
Jones was dismissed the from the football team in July.
He was in court on Wednesday, but did not speak while entering or leaving the courtroom.
