Pohlad Family Trying To Buy Land Near New Ballpark

Minneapolis (AP) ― The family of Minnesota Twins owner Carl Pohlad is snapping up land near the site of the new taxpayer-subsidized stadium being built for the team.

The team has confirmed that a development company owned by the Pohlads is trying to purchase an 11-story office building across the street from the site of the stadium.

The Twins and the newly created Minnesota Ballpark Authority, which will own the stadium, have reached a preliminary agreement on a separate land parcel near the stadium that is likely to directly benefit the team and its owners.

Twins president Dave St. Peter says the team and the Pohlads are interested in making sure the land around the stadium is utilized well.

But one stadium critic says the deals are more proof that the stadium is more about making money than bringing outdoor baseball to Minnesota.

The Metrodome replaced Met Stadium, which used to be in Bloomington. The Mall of America now stands in that site.
