In droves, Minnesotans tuned in to watch former Green Bay Packer Brett Favre return to his old stomping grounds wearing the enemy's garb.
Sunday afternoon's matchup between the Packers and the Minnesota Vikings at Lambeau Field earned spectacular television ratings for KMSP-TV.
At its peak, the game was watched by an estimated 80 percent of all households watching TV at the time, which translated to about 848,000 homes.
Overall, the game averaged a 76 share and a 47 rating. On average, 815,000 households in the Minneapolis-St. Paul TV market were tuned into the game.
In fact, this game outpaced the ratings earned by the earlier showdown between the Vikings and the Packers. The October 5 game earned a combined 58.3 rating between KSTP and ESPN's separate broadcasts, according to the Star Tribune.
So far this season, Vikings games have been averaging about a 65 share, with roughly 554,000 households watching the Favre saga play out.
Also, last season's Super Bowl averaged a 68 share in this market.
Last weekend, most markets saw the Super Bowl
champ Steelers hand Favre and the Vikings their first loss of the season. The game set
national ratings and audience records for the slot with a 11.4 rating, a 25 share and 18.5
million viewers.
