Workplace Rivalry Heats Up As Border Battle Lurks

HUDSON, Wis. (WCCO) ― It's one of the biggest rivalries in football - Vikings against Packers. But it's not just the players who take the big game seriously. Co-workers at one border workplace do, too.

Employees at RESCO, a sales and marketing support company in Hudson, Wis. are fired up. This is rivalry week, a time when co-workers separate themselves into two groups by colors -- purple and green.

"It's probably about 35 to 65 Packer fans. We're in God's country," said RESCO president John Knutson.

Knutson is primarily responsible for a YouTube video, showing what goes on inside RESCO during the week of the big game.

"We did it as kind of an in-house project for friends and family just to have fun with the border battle rivalry," he said.

More than 3,000 people watched the video in its first 24 hours on the Web.

One look at the video and it's apparent -- for these football fans, Sunday's game is a big deal and they will do almost anything to get the upper hand during border battle week.

"Both sides can take it too seriously at times but it's all in good fun," said Knutson.

It's fun that sometimes went a little too far. Ryan Hilke cut his own hair to look like Vikings' Jared Allen, and in the video, was egged for it.

When WCCO's Reg Chapman asked if Hilke knew the egging was coming, both ended up being victims of a run-by egging.

"Because I live in Minneapolis, because I am a Vikings fan, I get egged," Chapman joked.

But, its all in good fun. And at RESCO, the border battle is a rivalry that appears to make more friends than enemies.
