Nation's Best H.S. Baseball Players Play At Dome

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) ― If you wanted to see the future, you should have been at the Metrodome while the Twins were out of town. A company called Perfect Game held a tournament where the top talent from around the country was on display, most from warm-weather states.

"We bring in about 220, 230 of the top high school players from around the country for one event. We always try to have that in a major league ballpark when possible. We've had it in Atlanta before, we've had it Tropicana," said Dave Rawnsley, Director of Perfect Game.

Monday afternoon, 16-year-old Carson Baranik threw pitches speeding into the low 90s in front of the scouts, who were part of the pressure to perform.

"I try not to look at them, but it's pretty hard not noticing. You just try to do your best and stay in yourself. Hopefully you do pretty good," Carson said.

He was just part of the pool they gathered to watch and evaluate. With this group there is no question they have a future in the game.

"To be honest with you out of all the kids I've seen, I don't see one that don't have major league tools. They all are prospects," said Charles. "Every kid that's on the field. They only question is where [they'll be drafted]."

They are at an age, and more importantly good enough, to start to dream a real dream.

"I quit football to do it because football ran in too much to summer baseball, so I just like doing it a lot," said Carlson.

You get the feeling many will get an opportunity to play in a major league stadium again.

"Pretty much every player that you could see was drafted in the first round out of high school for the last six to eight, 10 years, has come through the Perfect Game national or some Perfect Game event," said Rawnsley.

Just one Minnesotan on the roster was Tylerr Ockluly from Champlin.
