What's a Vikings fan to do this weekend? Do you
cheer for the Green Bay Packers -- or their opponent?
The folks who will be cheering the loudest for the
cheeseheads might just be the ticket brokers. Prices for Packer playoff
tickets could be record-setting.
"I've never seen ticket demand like this for an
NFC or an AFC championship," said Michael Nowakowski, from TicketKing.
The prices are roughly 40-percent more than original
estimates. They range from $500 to $1900.
"When I saw the weather forecast I assumed that the demand was going to really go down," said Nowakowski.
He was wrong. The frigid forecast for Sunday reminds
cheeseheads of the Ice Bowl. At that 1967 playoff game, players got
frostbite in negative 46 wind chill. The game is legendary.
"Everyone wants to be at the second ice bowl -- wants to be able to tell their grandchildren's grandchildren ... that they were at the second ice bowl," he said.
For fans who don't want to endure the frozen tundra,
there are Packer bars even in Vikings country.
Gabe's in St. Paul claims to be the largest in that
category. It shipped in cuisine from the dairy state, everything from brats to
cheese curds for Sunday's match-up.
"There are times when we will have people
waiting at the door," said Mike Long from Gabe's.
If the playoffs are not your thing, save up for the
big show. Superbowl tickets will likely cost between $5,000 to $15,000 if there's
a Packers vs. Patriots match-up.
