Vikings fans will have to wait to see if they'll be able to watch Sunday's game on television. Friday afternoon, the team got a 24-hour extension to sell the 3,100 remaining tickets. If they don't sell-out the game by 3:30 p.m. Saturday, the game will be blacked out in the Twin Cities, Rochester and St. Cloud television markets.
People will have to travel north to watch it on TV, where Hinckley is about the closest spot to show the game. It's in the Duluth television market and more than the required 75 miles away.
Tobies Restaurant in Hinckley is a half-way point between Duluth and Minneapolis. It's about an hour and 15 minutes to either city. The bar there usually sees its share of locals on a football afternoon, but this Sunday, the place could be packed. It put extra servers on standby for a Sunday shift.
Tobies' server Brenda Price has been working there for more than 30 years. She remembers the last blackout in 1997.
"It was a full house. Top, bottom, everything was full," she said.
Vikings spokesman Steve LaCroix said most of the tickets are being sold to fans, rather than to corporations. On Friday, the Vikings ticket office said it was too busy to count where those fans live. A spokesman for the ticket office said fewer Eagles fans are buying tickets "than perceived."
KMSP-TV, which is schedule to air the game, would not say whether it was considering buying the extra tickets, but said it was encouraging its fans to do so.
If the game is blacked out, KMSP will run the Fox Sports pre-game show, a digital television special, an episode of Law and Order and then the local news.
