Dome Sweet Dome? Gophers Ready To Say Goodbye

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) ― It's the beginning of the end tomorrow for the Minnesota Gophers and the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome.

The Gopher football team begins its 27th season under the Teflon with a game against the Northern Illinois Huskies. They will play seven games there this year.

So far it's been a forgettable area of indoor football for Minnesota, the state's only major university.

It started good enough, with big win over Ohio University in 1982, but last year the Gophers went only 1-and-11.

However on the northeast edge of campus there's a daily source of motivation for players who want get out of the dome. The brick-clad TCF Bank Stadium is rising and it should be ready for the September 12th, 2009, opener against Air Force.
