Whalen Scores 14, Leads Suns Past Lynx 75-66

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) ―

Lindsay Whalen made another successful return to her home state, scoring 14 points to help the Connecticut Sun beat the Minnesota Lynx 75-66 Tuesday night.

Whalen, who led the University of Minnesota to its first Final Four appearance in 2004 and is from nearby Hutchinson, added eight rebounds and six assists. Asjha Jones led the Sun (8-1) with 20 points.

Tamika Whitmore had her second double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds and Barbara Turner had 18 as Connecticut matched the best start in franchise history.

Rookie guard Candice Wiggins tied her career-high with 22 points for Minnesota (6-2). Seimone Augustus scored 11 and Nicole Ohlde added 10 for the Lynx, who lost for the first time at home.

After losing three starters from last season's disappointing first-round playoff exit, the Sun have emerged under Whalen's leadership. She entered the game averaging a career-high 15.5 points and was second in the league with 6.3 assists.

She is the Golden Gophers' career leading scorer.
