Twins Sign Nathan To Long-Term Contract

(WCCO)

The Minnesota Twins signed closer Joe Nathan to a long-term contract Monday that will keep the pitcher with the team through 2011.

The deal also includes an option for 2012.

Nathan, a two-time All Star, pitched nearly 73 innings last year with the Twins had had an ERA of 1.88.  He had 37 saves and 77 strikeouts.

He has 160 saves in the past four years with the Minnesota Twins.

Nathan was in the final year of a contract that was to pay him $6 million.  Several ace relievers around the league make more money than that.

The Twins did not immediately release financial details of the contract.
