'U' To Vote For Dry Stadium Rule This Week

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) ― The kegs could run dry for University of Minnesota athletics this week as the regents are expected to approve a no-booze policy.

University President Robert Bruininks is recommending that regents ban alcohol from the new TCF Bank Stadium set to open for football this fall.

The university had wanted to sell alcohol only to holders of pricey tickets, but lawmakers and Gov. Tim Pawlenty ruled that the school could sell alcohol stadium-wide, or not at all.

They also blocked the university from serving free alcohol to fans in premium seating areas.

Bruininks also wants the hockey team's Mariucci Arena and the basketball team's Williams Arena to go dry.

The Board of Regents are scheduled to vote on the proposal on Wednesday.
