Wild's Bouchard, Veilleux File For Arbitration

ST. PAUL (AP) ― Minnesota Wild restricted free agent Pierre-Marc Bouchard has filed for salary arbitration, along with fellow forward Stephane Veilleux.

Saturday was the deadline for players to file. Hearings around the league will be held between July 21 and August 4, and negotiations on long-term contracts can continue up to the hearing. If no deal is struck, Bouchard will get a one-year contract.

The 24-year-old's goal total dropped from 20 to 13 last season, but he led the Wild with a career-high 50 assists. He was a 2002 first-round draft pick and made $2.6 million last season. He has signed three straight one-year contracts.

The team wants to sign Bouchard to a long-term deal, but with unrestricted free agency looming next summer his asking price could be higher than what the Wild are willing to pay.

Veilleux has carved a niche on the checking line since he was drafted in the third round in 2001. He had a career-high 11 goals last season.
