MN Professor To Be In Bike Race Across Africa

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) ― A St. John's University philosophy professor is heading to Africa this morning to participate in a bicycle ride across the continent.

Gene Garver will land in Cairo and will start a 7,400 mile bike ride down Africa later this month.

The Tour d'Afrique is described as one of the world's longest and most challenging. It goes through Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Botswana, Namibia and South Africa and doesn't end until May.

Garver is raising money for the Minnesota-based American Refugee Committee's relief efforts.
