Big Ten Network, Cable Having 'Meaningful' Talks

ST. PAUL (WCCO) ― With the threat of the Minnesota legislature intervening, the Big Ten network, the University of Minnesota and cable television representatives said they're having productive and meaningful talks about ending their current standoff.

The companies are trying to agree on how to bring Gopher sports to customers, either as an extra paid channel or as part of basic cable.

On Tuesday, DFL state representative Sheldon Johnson tried to get a Minnesota House subcommittee to approve a bill that would force arbitration between the Big Ten network and Comcast Cable. However, lawyers said that's unconstitutional and the bill was tabled.
