Wisconsin Beats St. Cloud State 4-1
ST. CLOUD, Minn. (AP) ―
Brendan Smith had a goal and an assist and Wisconsin's defense gave up just 19 shots on goal as the Badgers beat St. Cloud State 4-1 Saturday, earning a split with the Huskies in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.
Smith set the tone for Wisconsin (7-4-1, 5-4-1 WCHA), which outshot the Huskies 33-19. Badgers' goalie Scott Gudmundson made 18 saves, giving up only David Eddy's goal earlier in the first period.
The Badgers outshot the Huskies 72-44 in the two games. They are averaging 18 shots more than their opponents.
Smith gave Wisconsin a 1-0 lead on the power play at 5:11 of the first period. Eddy tied it at 6:30 but it was all Wisconsin from there.
With the score tied at 1 at 14:51 of the second period, John Mitchell beat Dan Dunn for what proved to be game-winner. Jordy Murray and Patrick Johnson scored in the third period for Wisconsin.
The Badgers' Aaron Bendickson had two assists.
Dunn stopped 29 shots for the Huskies, who won 4-1 on Friday
Ryan Lasch had an assist, giving him three points on the weekend, but Blake Geoffrion saw his five-game points scoring streak come to an end.
