Injured Hip To Keep Gaborik From World Champs

ST. PAUL (AP) ― Marian Gaborik has a hip injury that will keep him from playing for Slovakia in hockey's world championship tournament next month.

The Minnesota Wild said Thursday their star right wing will undergo further medical consultation before a decision is made on how to treat the injury.

The Wild issued a brief news release that revealed Gaborik has a "hip deficiency attributable to overuse."

After a career-best 42 goals during the regular season, Gaborik did not score in the first-round playoff series against the Colorado, which the Avalanche won in six games. He is entering the final year of his contract.
