Young Fan's Unique Connection To Annika Sorenstam

EDINA, Minn. (WCCO) ― Just one more day until play gets underway at the U.S. Women's Open in Edina. One family drove 800 miles roundtrip just so their daughter could see her favorite player, one of the most famous golfers in the world.

Annika Sorenstam has won 72 LPGA tournaments including 10 majors. So it's not surprising that she's got a lot of fans but probably none as fanatical as one 10-year-old.

Meet Annika Baeten, from Green Bay, Wis., and it's no coincidence that her name is Annika. Her family even has a picture of the golfer Annika holding little Annika has a baby at a past U.S. Women's Open.

Little Annika has followed the golf pro for years, showing another picture of the two together about four years ago.

On Wednesday, she got another memento to add to her collection: a signed poster. But that's not all. As it turns out little Annika brought the same shirt that golfer Annika was wearing on the poster before she saw the famous star wearing it.

"I was really excited because I just got that shirt that she's wearing in the photo, and it was really cool to get the picture signed," said Annika Baeten.

And just like professional golfer Annika, little Annika is also good at golf.

"I'm pretty good. I shot a 65 yesterday in my golf league," said Annika Baeten.

So what does Annika Sorenstam think about her little namesake?

"Oh wow, that's quite the compliment. I will miss the fans after this year," she said. "I have a feeling that I'm going to come back here so hopefully I will see some other little Annika's."
