Remembering Mieko: A Big Smile, A Brave Heart

Mieko Johnson, daughter of WCCO-TV reporter Maya Nishikawa, was born in 2004 with the genetic disorder Trisomy 18, which is the presence of an extra #18 chromosome.  She died July 11, 2008.

At age 4, Mieko was considered a long-term survivor. Research shows only 10 percent of Trisomy 18 children live past the age of 1.
