Khalid Allah was forced to raise his son Supreme alone, after the child's mother threw him and his twin brother Sincere off the Wabasha Street Bridge in St. Paul.
It was six years ago this weekend, during the Taste of Minnesota, when Naomi Gains, tossed her 14 month old twins off that bridge and into the water below.
Bystanders were able to pull Gaines and one of her sons, Supreme Allah to safety.
The body of Sincere Allah was found two days later, 11 miles downstream.
"He doesn't ask too many questions, not yet," said Khalid Allah.
Khalid says his 7-year-old son is too busy playing to remember much about his life before July 4, 2003.
"He'll just say things about it like 'My little brother was in the water, my little brother.' Well that was your twin brother, not your little brother," said Khalid.
Khalid has chosen to raise his son with Gaines' other children, Supreme's brother Jalani and sister Kayla.
"They were a part of his life before the situation happened and its not my job to strip him from them. And its not my job to strip them from him," said Khalid.
The 29-year-old father blames postpartum psychosis. not Gaines, for taking Sincere's life.
"I can't blame her because it wasn't her at the time, she was very sick," said Khalid.
He plans to keep all three children together. He says they are close although neither he or Supreme has seen Gaines since the incident.
Khalid said when Supreme wants to see his mother he will not stop him.
Gaines was convicted on second-degree murder and is serving time at the Shakopee women's prison. She is expected to be released in 2015.
