Nearly 700 people started the New Year with a cold plunge into Lake Minnetonka in Excelsior, Minn.
The 17th annual New Year's jump into the icy lake attracted 677 participants -- a record that broke last year's group of 518.
Jumpers plunged into an eight-foot-long hole in the ice. Excelsior firefighters were on hand to make sure the jump was safe.
Proceeds go to community programs such as Camp SuperKids and the Minnesota Lung Association.
