Will The RNC Break Traffic In St. Paul?

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) ― Over 200,000 people are expected to be in the Twin Cities at the beginning of next month for the Republican National Convention. That may have you wondering how easy it will be for you to get where you need to go.

Experts are recommending you drive to the outside of downtown and then take an alternate way in.

The morning commute is not expected to pose as significant a problem as the evening commute, when the delegates are headed toward St. Paul.

On Tuesday, the Commuter Connection held an informational forum to help people plan their best route. They are even teaching people how to change a flat tire on a bicycle.

"We're trying to promote people biking, walking into the downtown core, parking outside of the downtown and walking in or biking in from there, and then also looking at bus alternatives," said Andrew Rankin of Commuter Connection.

They say if everyone continues to commute the way they do now, things will not go smoothly, but we found some commuters who are not anticipating any changes.

"I guess we hadn't really considered it yet. We've carpooled for eight years," said commuter Chris Zinn.

"We don't expect any impact, so we're not planning any changes," said commuter Mike Reymann.

The commuter connection is located in the US Bank building in the skyway over 6th Street. The informational event today continues until 5 p.m.
