Informant Testifies In Federal RNC Case

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) ― An FBI informant says he tried to talk two Texas men out of their plan to use Molotov cocktails against law enforcement officers during the Republican National Convention.

Brandon Darby testified Tuesday during the federal trial of 23-year-old David Guy McKay. McKay is accused of making and possessing the firebombs. His trial continued Wednesday.

Darby had a national reputation as an activist among social justice groups, but is now an outcast. Some activists attending McKay's trial hissed when Darby entered the courtroom.

Defense attorney Jeffrey DeGree claims McKay was entrapped and built the firebombs only because he was under Darby's influence.

A man charged with McKay, Bradley Neal Crowder, has pleaded guilty to one count of aiding and abetting possession of an unregistered firearm. When he entered the plea, Crowder said he and McKay alone built the Molotov cocktails and nobody influenced them to do it.

The Republican National Convention was held at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul from Sept. 1 through Sept. 4, 2008.
