Some St. Paul Businesses Disappointed With RNC

ST. PAUL (AP) ― Some St. Paul business owners say they're frustrated that business during the Republican National Convention wasn't better.

The discussion came Wednesday at a St. Paul Area Chamber of Commerce meeting attended by nearly 80 business owners and representatives.

Susan Kimberly is the Chamber's vice president of economic development. She says that if the businesses had done great during the RNC, there wouldn't have been a meeting.

She says that if she had known about how the protests and security perimeter would affect businesses, she would have advised business owners to take a more conservative approach.

For example, Andy Flamm of Cedar Business Printing says he opened on Labor Day, which was the first day of the convention, and expected a lot of business. Instead, it was the slowest day he could remember.

The Republican National Convention was held at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul from Sept. 1 through Sept. 4, 2008.
