Red Lake Student To Ring Bell At NYSE

NEW YORK (AP) ― A Red Lake High School student credited with saving a dozen lives will ring the closing bell at the New York Stock Exchange Friday.

Jeffrey May, 17, will be in New York with his family to receive the Reader's Digest Hero of the Year award.

The magazine's chairman, Thomas Ryder, will join May at the stock exchange.

Reader's Digest has been honoring "everyday heroes" for more than 20 years.

May was selected for putting himself at risk when fellow student Jeff Weise opened fire on students in the school on March 21, 2005. May tackled Weise, allowing 12 people to get to safety, and was shot in the face during the scuffle.

Weise killed nine people and wounded seven others before committing suicide.
