Reality Check: Gov. Carol Molnau?
(WCCO)
eSen. John McCain surged to a commanding lead Tuesday in the race for the Republican presidential nomination, leaving many people to wonder what it means for Minnesota if Gov. Tim Pawlenty, as rumored, ends up on the national ticket.
We're not saying ... we're just saying. No matter how much the governor demurs, the political chatter has him on a short list for vice president with John McCain.
IN FACT, Pawlenty is the national co-chairman of the McCain for President Campaign.
He's been on the road with the presumptive nominee five of the last six weekends in New Hampshire, Iowa, Michigan, Florida and Illinois.
That's NOT THE WHOLE STORY. Let's say it happens. Pawlenty runs on the national ticket and wins.
He would resign as Minnesota governor and his replacement is prescribed by law.
It's TRUE. The Minnesota Constitution says if a governor resigns, the lieutenant governor takes over. In this case it would be Gov. Carol Molnau, a Republican.
Moving up to Lieutenant Governor, as the Constitution names the current President of the Senate, would be Democrat James Metzen.
That's Reality Check.
