Chris Shaffer Named WCCO-TV Evening Meteorologist
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) ―
Chris Shaffer has been named the evening meteorologist for WCCO 4 News at 5 p.m., WCCO 4 News at 6 p.m. and WCCO 4 News at 10 p.m., effective immediately, it was announced today by Scott Libin, WCCO-TV News Director. Shaffer will be moving from the morning meteorology spot on WCCO 4 News This Morning, a position he's held since October 2006.
"I think of weather as the one story of any newscast that directly affects every viewer every day," said Libin. "We put stories of that importance in the hands of the most-trusted, most-skilled people we can find. Chris is experienced not only in meteorology, but in Minnesota weather, and he is a skilled storyteller."
"I've lived here all my life and love talking about the weather and sharing weather-related stories," said Shaffer. "When I graduated from Stillwater High School, I told my classmates that some day I was going to do the weather on Twin Cities television. That dream came true in October of 2006 when I joined the WCCO-TV morning show. To do so now with the likes of Don Shelby and the incredibly talented evening anchor teams and crews is emotional, it's a rush. I'm honored and I'm flattered beyond belief."
Shaffer earned degrees in meteorology and mass communications at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. He holds the American Meteorological Society's Seal of Approval for Television, although he spent many years of his career in radio on local stations like KOOL 108, BOB 100, 104.1 The Point, Cities 97, K102 and KTLK.
Shaffer compares his work in weather to his even-more-important main job, raising three daughters whom he describes as "loud as a thunderstorm, pretty as a sunset and strong as a straight-line wind." He, his wife Gloria and their three children live in Woodbury.
WCCO-TV is part of the CBS Television Stations, a division of CBS Corporation.
