Michele Tafoya, Don Shelby Teaming Up On WCCO-AM

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) ― Monday Night Football reporter and Minnesotan Michele Tafoya will be teaming up with WCCO-TV's Don Shelby during weekday afternoons on WCCO Radio starting June 1.

Don Shelby's radio show will be heard from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. and Shelby will then team up with Tafoya for a half-hour before starting her own show at 3:30 p.m. "The Michele Tafoya Show" will run until 6 p.m.

WCCO 4 News at 6 p.m. will continue to be simulcast on WCCO Radio at 6 p.m.

"I'm delighted that my dear friend, Michele Tafoya, is joining the WCCO Radio family," Shelby said. "It gives me even greater pleasure to know that I'm turning over this loyal audience to someone who cares about them as much as I do.

"This new schedule works perfectly into my life, both professionally and personally, as I take on ever-increasing duties on TV," Shelby continued.

"Don Shelby is a tough act to follow," Tafoya said. "He's one of Minnesota's finest. Even my father-in-law says I have big shoes to fill!"

Those on-air personalities who currently work with Shelby, including Jeff McKinney, will still be heard in both Shelby's and Tafoya's programs.

"This new afternoon lineup promises to be five hours of pure engagement," said Wendy Paulson, the program director at WCCO Radio. "You've got Don Shelby, the icon, known for his wit, intelligence and incredible ability to communicate. Michele Tafoya is a multi-dimensional personality, who is nationally-renowned for her sports coverage and is also a wife, mother and fearless businesswoman, whose interests range from politics to pop culture."

"Michele adds even more 'star power' to the WCCO talent team," said Mick Anselmo, the senior vice president and market manager for CBS Radio in Minneapolis. "She has plenty to talk about and creates a 'game-changing opportunity' for WCCO."

Tafoya has been a sideline reporter for Monday Night Football for the past five years. She's also worked as a courtside reporter for NBA games. Prior to working for ESPN and ABC Sports, Tafoya spent six years working for CBS Sports. She's also worked for KFAN-AM and WCCO-TV, locally. Tafoya holds a bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism from the University of California-Berkeley and a master's degree in business administration from the University of Southern California.

Tafoya, her husband and their two children live in Edina.

Shelby has been with WCCO-TV since 1978 and has won all five of the nation's top journalism awards, including three national Emmys, the Columbia DuPont Citation, the Scripps-Howard Award and the Society of Professional Journalists Distinguished Service Award. He's also won two Peabody Awards.

Shelby is married and has three daughters, who all share his passion for the outdoors. In his free time, he enjoys rock and ice climbing, canoeing, gardening and beekeeping, just to name a few.

WCCO-TV and WCCO Radio are both owned by the CBS Corporation.
