4 Area Golfers Tee Off For 'Golf Nut' Tournament
Minneapolis/St. Paul (WCCO) ―
WCCO TV will broadcast a one-hour special entitled, "Golf Nut" from 12-1 p.m. on Sunday, August 16, right before the final round of coverage of the 2009 PGA Championship, it was announced today by Susan Adams Loyd, WCCO TV Vice President and General Manager. Four area golf enthusiasts qualified to play in WCCO TV's first-ever "Golf Nut" tournament, which takes place at Hazeltine National Golf Club, in Chaska, Minnesota, the official site of the 2009 PGA Championship. The show "Golf Nut" is the journey for the red jacket, while playing a very atypical game of golf.
"'Golf Nut' promises 'no holes barred' entertainment and fun for golf enthusiasts," said Loyd. "We are excited to televise our version of game show meets golf."
The "Golf Nut" tournament is set up to play like no other golf game. Prizes and surprises are in store for each of the players during the 9-hole tournament, some of which may improve scores, or potentially crush them! The winner takes home a pair of Champions Club tickets to the final round of the PGA Championship, and of course a trophy and the WCCO TV red jacket!
"The players have been chosen, so let the game begin!" said Scott Wooldridge, WCCO TV Director of Promotion and Production and "Golf Nut" producer. "Twists and turns, surprises and strategies, chunks and chilly dips ... it's all there ... now it's time to see who's been crowned the champion ... the first ever, Golf Nut Champion!"
Earlier this summer, WCCO TV asked Minnesota golfers to submit a video audition including why they would make the best Golf Nut and why they should be selected as one of the four to play in the Golf Nut tournament. Four finalists were chosen based on their love of the game and their personality. See the Golf Nut video spots here:

The foursome for the first-ever "Golf Nut" show include the following local golfers:
Michelle from Osceola, Wisconsin is a bank Customer Experience Officer whose dream foursome is herself, her husband and her two sons. How sweet.
Jake form Minneapolis, Minnesota loves his irons and touts a wicked short game. He dresses like Payne Stewart on the course in honor of his dad who taught him the game (who also dressed like Payne).
Scott from Lake Elmo, Minnesota is a native East St. Paul boy and self-proclaimed big hitter. His golf philosophy; "Go big or go home."
Tyler from Owatonna, Minnesota got his first hole-in-one a couple of days before his 15th birthday. His prize possession is a framed Tiger Woods golf ball from the 2002 PGA Championship!
The hour-long "Golf Nut" program will be televised in glorious HD beginning at 12 P.M. CDT, Sunday, August 16th on WCCO TV.
