Turnout hasn't topped 80 percent since 83 percent of eligible voters took part in 1956.

Minnesota's secretary of state says election officials around the state are ready for massive turnout in Tuesday's election.
Mark Ritchie has estimated that turnout could hit 80 percent. That would fulfill a goal Ritchie says he set two years ago -- "80 in '08."
Turnout hasn't topped 80 percent since 83 percent of eligible voters took part in 1956.
Ritchie says officials have printed extra ballots -- as many as twice the expected turnout in some cases -- to make sure they don't run short.
Ritchie says the state is on target for absentee voting by as many as 12 percent of voters -- up from 8 percent four years ago.
