Ventura Touts Barkley In Senate Ads

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) ― Independence Party U.S. Senate candidate Dean Barkley is turning for help to his old friend Jesse Ventura for his first ads of the election season.

Two radio ads featuring Barkley and former Governor Ventura are to start airing around Minnesota on Thursday. Republican Norm Coleman and Democrat Al Franken have regularly been running TV commercials for months.

Barkley managed Ventura's winning bid for governor in 1998, and in one ad Ventura asks voters to send another "wake-up" call by picking Barkley.

Ventura also touts Barkley's record of accomplishment in the U.S. Senate, where he served briefly in 2002 when Ventura appointed him after the death of Paul Wellstone.
