U.S. Senate Recount Explainer

(WCCO) Have questions about the what the numbers in the Minnesota U.S. Senate race mean?  Check below.

Votes
-- These are the confirmed recounted votes from only precincts that have completely finished their recounting.

Contesting Votes -- These are the number of ballots being contested by each candidate. NOTE: Not all of the ballots being contested are necessarily ballots cast for the other leading candidate.

Current Lead -- This is the difference between the two leading candidates using only the recounted vote totals. It does not include ballots being contested.

Net Gain -- This is the net change in the margin between the two top candidates from only the precincts that have reported completely. It is determined by comparing the vote totals from the same precincts in the first election count. NOTE: It does not include any ballots that are being challenged and could change drastically as votes are recounted and challenged ballots are investigated.

Ballots Recounted % -- This is the percentage of total ballots that have been recounted so far. It is not the percentage of precincts that have been recounted because some precincts have significantly more ballots than others.
