Governor Tim Pawlenty is adding two special elections to the ballot on Election Day.
Pawlenty is calling special elections to fill the seats of state Senators Betsy Wergin and Dan Larson on Nov. 4. If either district needs a primary election, it will be on Sept. 9.
Candidates for the seats can start filing paperwork with the Secretary of State on Tuesday. The filing deadline is 5 p.m. Monday, July 21.
Wergin is leaving after the governor named her to the Public Utilities Commission. The Republican represents a central Minnesota district covering Big Lake, Princeton and the southern end of Lake Mille Lacs.
Larson is a Democrat from Bloomington who is stepping down to take a job in the private sector. His district includes Richfield and parts of Bloomington and Minneapolis.
The rest of the state Senate isn't up for election until 2010.
