The president of a semi-autonomous region of northern Somalia is speaking to a crowd of his fellow Somalis in Minneapolis.
President Abdirahman Mohamed Farole of Puntland is scheduled to address a Somali Independence Day celebration Tuesday evening at the Minneapolis Convention Center. Farole also spent time in Washington, where he met with government officials.
A local organizer says he expects Farole to talk about the continued political instability in Somalia, the problem of Somali pirates off the country's coast, and concerns in Minnesota about the disappearance in recent years of young Somali men believed to be serving with a militant Islamic terror group in their home country.
Farole was democratically elected and took office in January.
