RNC Still Looking For Volunteers

ST. PAUL (AP) ― It takes a village to put on a national political convention. That, and about 10,000 volunteers.

The organizers of the Republican National Convention later this summer said they've got almost 4,000 volunteers signed up so far. They're taking applications through the end of June for the rest.

The volunteers will help with transportation, information, hospitality and special events at a number of locations during the convention September 1-4 at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.

Cynthia Lesher, president of the host committee, said it's the perfect time for Minnesotans to get involved in a history-making event.

According to GOP.com, the Republican Party was born in the early 1850's by anti-slavery activists and individuals who believed that government should grant western lands to settlers free of charge. In 1860, Abraham Lincoln was elected as the first Republican Party president.
